Dr AvinoMESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT ANTHONY J. AVINO, MD, FACS

I am honored to serve as President of the Georgia Vascular Society and I look forward to seeing everyone return to The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee in September for the GVS 5th Annual Scientific Sessions. Lake Oconee continues to be a very charming, accommodating and convenient location for our members and their families.

The Georgia Vascular Society experienced tremendous growth this past year and we now have 80 vascular surgeon members. In addition, we incorporated the Atlanta Vascular Society into GVS, grandfathering their members into our Society. It is my sincere interest to reach out to the remainder of the vascular surgeons in Georgia who have not yet joined GVS.

The Annual Scientific Sessions also experienced significant growth with a 34% increase in attendance at our last meeting. We had the pleasure of honoring Dr. Robert B. Smith with a Lifetime Achievement Award and introduced the Georgia Vascular Foundation with its primary goal to educate and support current medical students and residents towards a career in vascular surgery.

The 2017 Annual Scientific Sessions will have an impressive agenda with three renowned visiting professors. I strongly encourage you to submit an abstract. Please share this information with your partners, colleagues, residents, fellows, nurse practitioners and physician assistants and welcome them to join our society and attend the annual meeting.

On behalf of the GVS Board, I extend our gratitude for the attendance and essential contributions of our members, administrative staff, visiting professors and our industry partners. Again, please encourage your colleagues who are not already members to join GVS and attend our annual meeting. This is your society and we welcome your input and urge you to submit your abstracts for this year's Scientific Sessions.
